Tennis Virgins

We play every Wednesday evening starting at 8:00pm until around 9.20pm at Preston Park Tennis Club. It is a perfect place for people who have not played tennis in a while or for those who do not feel they have the skills or confidence necessary to join the BLAGSS Tennis group.

Our goal is to provide basic instruction and coaching to help players get to a level where they can confidently participate in the regular group or play on a club level.

Coaching is provided by Sam, who is a professional tennis coach based at Preston Park Tennis Club.

We welcome new members of any experience including beginners.

Tennis Virgins back again on WEDNESDAY 9th JANUARY 2019

Seasons greetings to all Tennis Virgins...we will start back in the New Year on Wednesday 9th January 2019 at 8pm.

Please sign up if you are going to join this session.

There are lots of possibilities for Tennis Virgins in the year well as our regular Wednesday evening sessions we could look at rusty racquets, tournaments, intenstive coaching and more...I will be listening to what our members want and then trying to put it all into action!

There will be a small price increase to £6 for each of our Wednesday evening sessions from January 2019...this covers the use of the courts, floodlighting and our coach, Sam.This is the first increase in years of Tennis Virgins, and I am confident that this will be acceptable to  our members. If anyone would any more information  about the reasons for the increase, please do contact me and I will be happy to talk it over with you.

I hope you all have lovely, happy, peaceful Christmasses and look forward to welcoming you back to Tennis Virgins on Wednesday 9th January 2019  at 8pm

Christmas tournament Results

What a fabulous evening of  excellent tennis and great company!

The Tennis Virgins Christmas tournament was played with customary good humour and competitive spirits....and was followed by presentations, pizza and chat in the club house.

We said thanks and awarded a 'great coach' trophy to Fuzzy, who has coached the Tennis Virgins with such a positive attitude for 7 years.

We also said a big hello and welcome to Sam, who is the new Tennis Virgins coach.

The overall winner of the the BLAGSS Tennis Virgins 2018 tournament was (young!) Rob...a well deserved win after a great years play as a regular at Tennis Virgins

The silver medal was shared by Pauline and Gabor ....and a 2nd silver medal has been ordered so each player can have one in pride of place in their home

The bronze medal was also a shared triumph, with Andy and Pedro enjoying their place in the club house podium....a 2nd bronze medal has also been ordered so both have one to keep!

Donna was the winner of the 'Most Improved Player' award....Fuzzys judgement that after a dedicated and hard working tennis year, Donna has made great improvements in every aspect of her tennis playing and is this years deserving winner.

And last, but by no means least, Tennis Virgins members were really pleased to give a 'great coordinator' award to Pauline McCluskey who has organised the group and our activities for some 7 years....she has done a really great and entirely voluntary is a considerable commitment and we have all enjoyed well organised, welcoming, inclusive tennis thanks to Paulines hard work and dedication.

We will play again at 8pm on Wednesday 12th December 2018...and then take a break until we begin again at 8pm on Wednesday 9th January 2019

Congratulations to everyone who played in the tournament...

Best wishes for a great festive season

Welcome to Sam, the new Tennis Virgins coach

A big welcome to Sam, the new Tennis Virgins coach

Tennis Virgins has been coached by Fuzzy for the past 7 years now. He has done a great job and been an absolutely excellent coach to our group, but has finally decided that he needs his evenings back!  Thanks so much to Fuzzy...

Preston Park Tennis Club and BLAGSS are pleased to announce that the Tennis Virgins coaching will now be undertaken by Sam.

Sam says

"Hi, I am really looking forward to coaching the BLAGSS Tennis Virgins group at Preston Park Tennis Club on Wednesday evenings. I have been a tennis coach for 5 years now, and was a coach at Virgin Active for the past 3 years. One of the things I am really looking forward to as a coach at Preston Park Tennis Club, is the opportunity to coach community based groups like BLAGSS.

I hope to meet you all soon

How We Play

Our goal is to provide basic instruction and coaching to help players get to a level where they can confidently participate in the regular group or play on a club level (e.g. understanding of the game and ability to hit the ball over the net and serve properly). We play a mixture of drills/games both singles and doubles, depending on how many attend.

Coaching is provided by a professional tennis coach.

We welcome new members of any experience including beginners.

Where We Play

Preston Park Tennis Club, The Drove, Preston Park. Car parking is available on site for a limited number of cars. Free on-street parking is available after 8pm.

What It Costs

Sessions cost £5 or £6 depending on how many players attend. Your first session is free, after which you must join BLAGSS in order to play again
