About BLAGSS![]() History and structureBrighton Lesbian and Gay Sports Society (BLAGSS) was set up in 1997 to provide an inclusive and supportive sports and social group for the city's gay and lesbian community. Membership is open to all, but the vast majority of our members are either gay or lesbian, and join to play sports and socialise with like-minded people. With over 600 members, and growing each year, BLAGSS is the area's largest not-for-profit organisation of its kind. It organises year-round sports and social activities, operating as an umbrella group for various specific sport sub-groups that co-ordinate their own activities. Occasional social events are set up across the entire membership. To view our Membership Rules, please click here. We encourage our members to network with each other and to launch new sports groups. Members can also contact each other individually to pursue 'fringe' sporting activities and can advertise their interests to other members via this website. The BLAGSS organising committee currently includes: Sandra (Chair), Gene (Vice chair), Roy (Secretary), Helen (Treasurer), Dawn (Socials), Peter (Membership), Ian (Website), Debbie (Equality and Diversity), Paul H (Publicity) Martin (Safety/Insurance & International links), Tim (Community Liaison), Greg (Sports Development) and all our Sports Coordinators. Big Gay Sports Day OutIn July 2011 BLAGSS held it's first 'Big Gay Sports Day Out' at the Stanley Deason Leisure Centre as part of Brighton's Take Part Festival of Sport. The day aimed to encourage more people in the LGBT community to particpate in sport and try something new. Activities on offer included rock-climbing, softball, yoga, boxercise, basketball, volleyball, badminton, squash, football, golf as well as nutritional advice and massage.
